Suminakese Wants Gov’t Action On Road

The residents of Suminakese in the Kwahu South district of the Eastern region have called on the government to come to their aid by constructing the road from the town to the main road.

The road, which helps the people in transporting their foodstuffs to and from the farms, is in a deplorable state, as products stay rotten on the farms.

Speaking in an interview with this reporter, the Odikro of the area, Nana Adarkwa Yiadom II, he said although the road has been in a deplorable state for a long time, illegal chainsaw operators are making it worse by using their big trucks in the night.

He called for a committee to be set up to check these illegal operators from destroying the forest, which increases to the bad nature of the road.

The deplorable nature of the road had forced drivers who patronize the place to charge traders more than expected for their wares, the Odikro noted.

Nana Yiadom II recalled that a petition was sent to the DCE of the place sometime last year, but nothing had been done to rectify the situation.

He therefore called on the government to come to the aid of the community, noting that it would enable prospective investors to get access to the village and thereby improve the economic well being of the people.

Suminakese is a farming area where most food and some cash crops are grown. It is the major activity of the people there.

The nearest town to the village is Nkawkaw and Abetifi, which is about eight miles away. The town has no hospital, unless the sick have to walk as far as eight miles to get to health facilities.
