Suhuyini: Government shielding Invincible Forces duo

Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini has questioned the commitment of government to arrest suspected Invincible Forces members who assaulted a senior police officer at the Flagstaff House soon after the New Patriotic Party took over power.

This comes on the heels of assertions by Interior Minister Ambrose Dery that the suspects had been evasive since the 9th of January, a development which has caused the Accra Circuit Court to issue a warrant for their arrest.

Mr Dery, addressing parliament on Thursday, said: “Mr Speaker, I’m aware of a complaint made by one ASP Nanka Bruce, Director in Charge of VVIP at the Flagstaff House, on 9 January 2017, in which he reported an alleged assault on him by an ex-policeman named Mumuni Jabil and one Abu. The matter is currently under investigation by the Police CID and efforts are being made to get the suspects arrested.

“The police in an effort to have the suspects arrested, among others, published a picture of Mumuni Jabil on the 18 March 2017 edition of the Daily Guide newspaper. The same story was also published on Ghana Web on 16 March 2017. And an Accra Circuit Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Mumuni Jabil.”

But speaking to Class News’ parliamentary correspondent Ekow Annan, Alhaji Suhuyini remained unconvinced about the will of the NPP government to give up its own to be tried in court.

He also questioned why the publication of their arrest warrants would be done in the Daily Guide, a private newspaper, and not any of the state-owned publications.

“They (Invincible Forces) are working per their sanction, so why will they be interested in arresting them? It’s a cover-up but we have to keep focusing on this issue, raising it until justice is done for Nanka Bruce,” he stated.
