Suhum EC office ransacked; Printer, laptops stolen

Some unknown thugs have attacked and ransacked the office of the Electoral Commission in Suhum in the Eastern region over the ongoing vote transfer exercise.

The thugs reportedly threatened to harm the EC officials if the votes of some persons living outside the constituency are not transferred to the constituency.

According to reports, a printer, a laptop and other gadgets being used by the EC officials were taken away by the unknown assailants.

Other EC properties were also destroyed in the process according to reports.

The EC office in Suhum has since been shut down while the incident which happened Thursday evening has been reported to the Police.

This comes after clashes between NPP and NDC supporters clashed over the voter transfer exercise in the Central Gonja district of the Northern region led to the closure of the EC office.

Officers of the commission locked up the offices and reached the police after members of the two rivalry parties went on rampage at the premises over a misunderstanding in the ongoing votes transfer exercise.

The commission has therefore suspended temporarily the process in the area.

The NPP communications officer for the Yapei/Kusawgu constituency told Starr News the NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Mr. John Jinapor, must be blamed for the clash.
