Kumasi, May 17, GNA – The Subin constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected Mr Abraham Mensah, a 45-year-old businessman, as its parliamentary candidate for the 2004 elections. At a special delegates’ congress in Kumasi on Sunday, Mr Mensah polled 157 votes to beat his sole rival, Mr Paul Kwabena Quansah, who got 36 votes.
Addressing the delegates, Alhaji Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, urged the party’s supporters to close their ranks and unite to ensure total victory.
He said with the current socio-economic hardships facing the people, the NDC has a better chance to recapture political power and appealed to members of the party to support the parliamentary candidate to win the seat for the party.
Alhaji Jamal said the new NDC was promoting internal democracy to encourage members to choose their own leaders and representatives to contest positions in the party.
Mr John Womega, Subin constituency chairman of the party, commended the polling agents for their hard work during the recent voter registration exercise, which he said, helped to prevent the registration of minors in the constituency.
He appealed to members of the party to remain committed and intensify their campaign to win more people for the party in the 2004 elections. 17 May 04
