Students urged to reciprocate investment made on them

Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, has appealed to students to reciprocate government’s provision of infrastructure and good learning environment by studying hard instead of indulging in immoral acts.

He said equal access to quality education by all was crucial to the development of the country, adding that interventions could only make an impact if school authorities, teachers, parents and the students played their part well.

Mr Terlabi, who was speaking at the Aburi Girls Unit of the Head of State Award Scheme-Ghana Bronze and Silver Award Presentation, appealed to teachers to give of their best.

Ms Rosemond Bampoe, Headmistress of Aburi Girls, said although the award scheme was beneficial to young people, it faced some challenges that made it inaccessible to thousands of young people who wished to participate.

She said one major demand for qualification was for participants to engage in voluntary service in public or private enterprise, but many organizations were ignorant about it and therefore did not open their doors to participants.

Ms Bampoe said the school bus used for the programme was not road-worthy and therefore appealed to the government and other stakeholders to help the school to acquire a 72-seater bus to facilitate the Head of State Award Scheme.

Some 120 students who had successfully undergone the silver and bronze test were presented with their awards.**
