Tema, Oct. 12, GNA – Students who fail to write terminal examinations with no apparent reason will face stringent measures, Mr Philip Agyei-Aye, Vice Principal of the Tema Technical Institute (TTI) warned on Saturday.
Addressing a meeting of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Institute, he said some students dodged terminal examinations just because they were not prepared adequately and to avoid embarrassment they failed to write the examinations, as they believed they would go unpunished.
He cautioned that the Institute would no longer tolerate this attitude, saying “Terminal examination which is equally important as the final examination is compulsory in every school because it is used to assess the performance of students.”
The Vice Principal, however, stated that the authorities would only accept excuses on ill health with a medical report from a qualified medical doctor.
He said a student who failed in three subjects would be repeated, while failure in more than three subjects would attract total withdrawal. Mr Agyei-Aye appealed to parents and guardians to monitor the performance of their wards to ensure that they studied at home and used their leisure hours profitably instead of watching unproductive films.
Mr Osei Tutu, Chairman of the PTA presented a set of jerseys, footballs and other sports kits valued at 10 million cedis to the Institute, which was received by Mr George Provencal, Principal. The PTA members agreed to contribute 21,000 cedis per parent per year as motivation to the teaching staff. The TTI trains students in dressmaking, photography, printing/dyeing and welding.
