Students should know existing job opportunities

Students should know about existing job opportunities, to be prepared for the job market after school.

“There is a big gap between the real world of business and the academic processes that students are taken through in school,” Mr Kader Coulibaly, Country Manager of DHL Express, said this at the SOS Children’s Village in Tema, during a program to educate young people at the village on career availability after school.

Dubbed “Go Teach”, the program forms part of the corporate responsibility of DHL, and is available to students between the ages of 15 to 25 years.

Mr Kader said “countries with high levels of employment often expose their students to the business world at an early stage.”

He said the country’s unemployment rate, could be reduced by educating the youth a lot more on “the real job market, and how to prepare for it as they grow “.

Mr Alexander Mar Kekula, National Director, SOS Children’s Villages-Ghana, said youth unemployment in Ghana, was largely due to the unpreparedness of the youth, “to adapt to the working environment.”

He said for the economy to improve and get sustained, “we need an effective educational system which ensures that young people are qualified to continue with the national process”.

Through a partnership, launched between DHL and the SOS Children’s Villages, young people from SOS, would be prepared for their careers and be provided with their initial work experience.
