Students send good luck messages to all political parties

Accra, Dec. 3, GNA- The National Union of Ghana Students, (NUGS), on Friday sent good luck messages to all political parties contesting the December 7 election.

The Union wished all the presidential candidates of the Conventional People’s Party (CPP), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) as well as all parliamentary candidates the best of luck in their quest to go to the Castle and Parliament respectively by January 7, 2005.

The NUGS in a statement signed by its President, Mr Abubakari Forgor, however advised all candidates “to refrain from acrimonious and provocative utterances in these few days to the elections. All candidates should also partner well and cooperate with the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a free, fair and transparent election. “Adherence to all electoral regulations and healthy political activities by the electorate and candidates alike will go a long way to exhibit Ghana’s democratic maturity and as well establish Ghana as a democratic role model for the African Continent”

The statement said, “It is in the interest of NUGS that the December 7 elections would not be characterized by any action to rob the nation of the God given and world acclaimed peace it is enjoying.” It entreated all Ghanaians, especially eligible student voters, to go and vote in their numbers because any government that would ascend the “Castle Throne” would impact so much on students.

“Students should therefore drop all financial and academic excuses to go and vote”, it said.
