Accra, Dec. 15, GNA – Final year students of the Presbyterian Women Training College at Aburi are bracing themselves up for a possible clash with the school’s authorities over an alleged non-payment of feeding allowances.
In a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency, the students alleged that the school’s authorities had deliberately refused to pay them the allowances in excess of three months on the grounds that the Government was yet to release funds.
They alleged that their investigations at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Ghana Education Service Treasury’s Department in Accra proved the contrary.
Subsequently, the students have called on the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu to intervene to avoid a possible clash with the School’s authorities.
When the GNA contacted the Principal, Mrs Rose Oduro Koranteng on phone, she said the school was paying the allowances for October and would disburse that of November and December once funds were released. She said funding for the College was usually delayed and the school authorities normally fed the students from its own coffers until it was reimbursed.
The students, who are currently on Teaching Practice in most first and second cycle schools at Aburi and its environs, receive 131,000 cedis a month to feed themselves.
They claimed that student from the Presbyterian Training College (PTC) Akropong, SDA Training College at Asokore in Koforidua had received their allowances and wondered why theirs had delayed.
