Amasaman, (GAR) July 4, GNA- Mr Nash Kwadjo Abbey, Senior Co-ordinator of the National Youth Council (NTC) of Ga West at the weekend called on parents to restrain their wards from swimming in rivers in order to prevent being infected by bilharzia and Buruli Ulcer. He said about 120 school children have been infected by the disease, which was preventing them from attending school in the area.
Mr Abbey made the call at Amasaman on Monday during the Second Youth Mock Assembly organized by the NYC in collaboration with the Ga West District Assembly.
It was aimed at combating the disease through education. He said the two institutions, in collaboration with other NGOs would undertake sensitization programme to instil attitudes that would enable people in the are to be aware of their civic respoonsibilities.
Mr Eric Quartey Papafio, District Chief Executive of the Assembly, who was the guest of honour, urged parents to send their children to school instead of allowing them to crack stones and win sand for monetary gains.
This, he said, would jeopardise their carrier.
Mr Quartey-Papafio also urged school children in the area to take their lessons seriously to become good future leaders. He said they should give due respect to teachers, parents and leaders.
