Students donated 120 units of blood to hospital

Koforidua, Oct. 28, GNA – Students of the Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTECH), on Tuesday, donated 120 units of blood to the Blood Bank of the Regional Hospital at Koforidua.

The donation formed part of voluntary blood donation that the school had been organizing to support the blood bank as part of its social responsibility to the community.

The co-ordinator of the school’s voluntary blood donation programme, Mr Emmanuel Okoh, said SECTECH over the past ten years had donated over 1,000 units of blood to the Blood Bank, adding that they had donated 128 units of blood early in the year.

He said the had promoted the school’s image for which it had won several awards including the National Blood Transfusion Award for Senior Secondary Schools in the southern sector.

Mr Okoh said the programme had also won the school three Ghetto Blasters, which were being used for Oral English studies. He expressed the school’s appreciation to Nestle Ghana Limited, for agreeing to sponsor the blood donation programme for the next five years.

Mr Emmanuel Bonney, the Assistant Chief Blood Organiser of the Regional Hospital Blood Bank, expressed the appreciation of the Bank for the support that the school had been providing to help save lives. Mr Bonney appealed to donor organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to support the Blood Bank with a vehicles to enable it to organize more voluntary blood donations programmes to ensure the availability of blood at the Bank for emergencies.
