Apam (C/R), March 25, GNA – Sixty-eight students of the Charity Secondary School, a private institution at Apam have donated a pint of blood each to the Blood Bank of the Apam Catholic Hospital. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Ebenezer Amekah, Acting Medical Superintendent of the Hospital appealed to people in the area to donate blood to save lives.
Dr Amekah noted that the strategic position of the Hospital with regard to the rampant accidents on the Winneba Junction-Mankessim road enjoined the Hospital to be ready at all times with adequate supplies of blood to save accident victims.
He commended the students for the gesture, which would also help to reduce maternal and infant mortality due to severe anaemia. Mr Martin Ampofo, leader of the Central Region Blood Organising Group from Cape Coast assured blood donors that their identity would not be exposed in case some virus was detected in the blood. “Do not refuse to donate blood for fear that your HIV or Hepatitis B status will be revealed”, he told the donors.
