Students congratulate President Kufuor

Accra, Jan. 11, GNA – The West African Students Union (WASU) on Tuesday congratulated President John Agyekum Kufuor on his inauguration to serve a second four-year term.

In a statement, Mr O’Seun Odewale, Secretary General of WASU, commended Ghanaians for the mature manner in which they conducted themselves during Election 2004 saying this feat was rare in a typical African setting.

He said WASU was involved in the observation process and attested to the fact that the Election was carried out in a free atmosphere. WASU said the electorate was wonderful, the Electoral Commission was marvellous and the political engagements of all the political actors were mature, healthy and in the interest of Ghana as a nation. WASU urged President Kufuor to see his victory as a responsibility to Ghana and not an opportunity to hunt and victimise perceived opponents. It also appealed to him to be magnanimous in victory.
