Students at Nkwabeng relieved

Nkwabeng (B/A), May 19, GNA – Students of the Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School at Nkwabeng who have studied under trees since their old block was damaged by a rainstorm in 2005 have been given a new block.

The block was financed through the HIPC fund and part of the MP’s common fund.

Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, a Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports who inaugurated the 250 million-cedi block of three classrooms, urged parents to provide their children with their basic school needs to complement the efforts of government in providing quality education. Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi, who is the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, advised parents to show more concern for the education of their children and called on the youth to take their education seriously. He presented a football and a set of jerseys to the staff and students of the school to promote sporting activities in the school. In an address read for him Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, the District Director of Education, expressed appreciation to the MP for providing a number of school blocks in the district. He expressed concern about the low number of junior secondary schools in the area and appealed to the government to consider opening a senior secondary school in the area to encourage JSS graduates to pursue higher education.

Nana Kyere Kuffour, the chief of Nkwabeng, expressed gratitude to the government for completing a number of development projects in the area including earmarking for tarring the road from Akumsa-Domase through Nkwabeng, Brahoho, Akuma and Abuontem.
