Student was neither jilted by boyfriend nor failed her exams – KNUST PRO

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kwame Yeboah at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has dispelled claims that Adwoa Anyimadu-Antwi committed suicide for failing one of her papers.

He further refuted reports that she was jilted by her boy friend hence the suicide to end her life.

“The issue has even changed to the fact that her boyfriend jilted her. All those information are not the fact and are false. So tomorrow the university will issue a statement [on the matter]. One thing we must also take note of is that the lady died and the circumstances we are not aware of. She was taken to the hospital and she was declared dead on arrival, so the corona’s report will be needed to determine the cause of the death. So let us wait till that is out,” he explained.

The deceased who was the daughter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asante Akim central constituency Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi hanged herself to death in her hostel room according to her colleague course mates who are also pursuing petrochemical engineering.

The 18-year old first year student was found dead on Friday morning in her hostel room with a rope fastened to her neck and hanging from the ceiling.

It is unclear what might have triggered the suicide but sources at KNUST campus say she failed one of her courses and couldn’t bear the shame hence the suicide.

She is expected to be buried on March 4, 2017.

Police have launched investigations into the matter.
