Student remanded for defilement

Tema, Jan. 28, GNA – An 18-year-old student has been remanded for forcibly having sex with a 16-year-old apprentice-seamstress at a public urinal at Ashaiman by the Tema Circuit Court “A”. Richard Aboagye pleaded not guilty and will reappear on February 24, 2005.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on March 20, 2004, at about 10:00 hours, the complainant was on her way to visit a friend within the Ashaiman Newtown neighbourhood, when the accused met her and proposed love to her, but she refused.

She said the accused held her hand outside to a nearby urinal of the Methodist Church and started to struggle with the complainant. The accused succeeded in forcibly having sex with the complainant. When she was freed, she reported the ordeal to her father, who also informed the police, a medical form was given to her to attend hospital for treatment.

Chief Inspector Assunta said after investigations he was brought to court with charges of defilement.
