Student Nurses to hire private hostels

Sekondi, Aug. 12, GNA – Female Students of the Nurses and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) at Effia Nkwanta near Sekondi have been asked to look for private hostels to safeguard their own lives. Mrs Matilda Bansah, the Principal of the College disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Monday. She said the decision was reached after persistent appeals for rehabilitation works on the female hostel failed to yield any positive results.

Mrs Bansah said the female hostel has large cracks in the walls, while the entire roofs leaks, and therefore makes it unbearable for the students any time it rained.

She noted that though the Ministry of Health assisted in renovating one of the hostels, this has also not been completed. Mrs Bansah said the plight of the students become worse when the rainy season started and to avoid any disastrous consequences, the females have been asked to relocate to private hostels, which must be negotiated for by themselves without any assistance from the school. The Students Representative Council (SRC) has however agreed to help. Mrs Bansah said first year students who would be admitted this year are also to look for their own accommodation. 12 Aug 08
