Student nurse remanded for assault

Accra, July 5, GNA – A student nurse, 23, who inflicted blade wounds in the face and breast of another student was on Tuesday remanded by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Kate Kane, who pleaded guilty, has been granted 300 million cedis with three sureties to reappear on July 18 this year. Kate was charged for causing unlawful harm to one Abideen Hayford. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector K. A. Musah told the Court that both the accused and the complainant lived in the same hostel at Ofankor, near Accra.

Chief Inspector Musah said sometime in April this year Kate left a warning note for Abideen to stop casting insinuation at her. Prosecutor said Abideen returned to the hostel from school to find two students fighting. Whilst she stood watching, Kate attacked her for no apparent reason, inflicted wounds on her face and breast and tore her school uniform. A Police medical form was issued to Abideen to go for treatment. After investigations Kate was arrested and charged for the offence. 5 June 05
