The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has jailed a 19-year old Student of Agona Kwanyako Opportune Senior High School seven years for impregnating a 14 year old student of Agona Asafo ADA Junior High School (JHS).
Peter Yaw Arthur pleaded guilty to defiling and impregnating the underage girl but appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy and free him because he had only one sexual intercourse with the girl.
Police Inspector Isaac Amon, prosecuting told the court presided over by her Honour Abigail Anima Asare that the accused and girl live in the same vicinity at Agona Asafo in the Agona East District.
He said on 6th February 2014, the accused met the girl and proposed love to her but she turned him down.
According to Police Inspector Amon, on 7th February 2014, the accused met the girl again and managed to persuade her into a room and had sexual intercourse with her.
Inspector Amon told the court that after five months, the girl got pregnant and when confronted by the parents she mentioned the name of the accused as the one responsible.
Police Inspector Amon said the parents of the girl reported the matter to the Agona Swedru Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and the accused was arrested.
