Student fined two million cedis for driving without license

Tema, Feb. 21, GNA- A Tema Circuit Court “B” on Thursday fined Daniel Obeng, a student, two million cedis or in default 18 months imprisonment, for drinking and driving without license.

He pleaded guilty to driving without license, negligently causing harm, driving under the influence of alcohol, use of uninsured vehicle, and use of vehicle without roadworthy certificate.

With him in the dock was his father, Kwasi Addae who was also charged with permitting use of uninsured vehicle and permitting un-licensing driving.

He pleaded not guilty and was granted a 20 million cedi bail with a surety to re-appear on March nine, this year.

Chief Inspector Alice Gyamfi, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on December 28, 2003, Obeng, who was drunk was driving a Toyota heading towards Tema community four junction. She said on reaching the junction he refused to observe the traffic and run into a BMW car belonging to one Boakye Yiadom.

According to the prosecutor the owner of the vehicle with two others who were in the car were rushed to the Hospital and were treated and discharged.

Obeng was found drunk and driving without license.
