Student drowns in Winneba

Winneba (C/R), Oct. 10, GNA- Kwesi Michael, a 23-year old student on Sunday was drowned when he went swimming near the Royal Beach Resort in Winneba.

The Winneba District Police Commander, ASP Jordan Quaye, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday that Michael was swimming when the current of the sea dragged him deeper and was drowned. He said his decomposed body, which was washed ashore after few days, has since been given to the family for burial after examination by a team of medical officers. ASP Quaye appealed to owners of all beach resorts in the town to employ trained life savers and guards to assist their client in times of distress and advised swimmers not to take alcoholic drinks before swimming.

The police commander urged the Chief fishermen in Winneba to identify areas not suitable for swimming and mount red flags to ward off would be swimmers.
