Strikes: Christian Council appeals to churches to intervene

The Right Revered Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has called on the leadership of the church to come together and join the state to address the current phenomenon of strikes in the country.

Speaking in a fraternal message at the on-going 2015 Synod of the Global Evangelical Church in Accra, Rev Opuni-Frimpong said such industrial actions on the labour front weakens laid down rules and regulations that govern labour negotiations.

“It is better to resort to amicable dialogue in the mediation to settle issues that confront us,” Rev Opuni stated.

Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, the Second Lady, opened the six-day Synod being run on the theme: “They Kingdom Come”. More than 650 delegates from all over the country and beyond are attending.

The Ghana Medical Association, Government Pharmacists and the University Teachers Association of Ghana, are all on strike demanding better working conditions.
