A member of the Communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) saying they have no moral right to accuse the Mahama-led administration of poorly handling labour agitations in the country.
Fred Agbenyo claims when the NPP was in power they performed poorly in terms of solving strike issues. According to him, the NDC needs to be commended rather than criticized because they have been able to address the concerns of labour unions better than the NPP.
Interacting with Kwami Sefa-Kayi during Tuesday’s edition of ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr Agbenyo stated: “The way and manner the NDC has handled the strike issues; even the public sector workers will admit that we have done well. During the NPP’s time, when teachers went on strike they even threatened to suspend their salaries…
Yes, we admit there are challenges in the country but if anyone will make noise about it, it should not be the NPP. They don’t have the moral right to talk about it this way…Let the ordinary Ghanaian talk about it”
Fred Agbenyo condemned the NPP for behaving ‘as if government is doing nothing to better the lives of public sector workers in the country’, adding, ‘they are just trying to make the sitting government unpopular’.
“Is there any government worker who can say that this government has not done well in ensuring that arrears in terms of salaries are cleared? Everybody will attest to the fact that there has been an improvement in our conditions…we can only plead with the labour unions to reason with government and review their stance because government is working on finding a lasting solution to the issues,” he stated.
