Hohoe, June 6, GNA – Authorities of the Volta School for the Deaf at Hohoe say they may close down by June 11, this year, if the current strike by the non-teaching staff of the school as part of a general action by Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) nationwide, is not resolved.
The non-teaching staff are unionised members of TEWU of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) have embarked on an industrial action to back their demand for favourable conditions of service.
Mr Cudjoe Dzotepeh, headmaster of the school, told the Ghana News Agency that after a lengthy in-house the kitchen staff agreed to resume cooking for the students up till June 11, by which time they expect parents would have come for their children.
In a telephone interview, Mr Daniel Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU, said the industrial action would last as long as stakeholders refuse to resume negotiations. “We are ready to do business on the resumption of negotiations with the Ministry and government”. 06 June 06
