Street children attend business management training

A four-day business management training for 26 products and apprentices of the Action-Aid Tamale Street Children Project from the Northern and Upper East Regions has ended at Tamale.

They had attachment training in carpentry, auto mechanics, electrical, dressmaking, hairdressing, straightening and spraying and mechanical welding to make them self-reliant and to prevent them from going back onto the streets.

Ms. Agnes Chiravira, he Street Children Project Co-ordinator, said the training, which was supported and supervised by Empretec Ghana Foundation was to make them self-sufficient and to make their customers appreciate their work. They were picked from the streets and given apprenticeship of their choice for three to five years and supported to set up their own shops. They discussed success in business, customer care, marketing and research, choosing type of business and interacting with people. They were also taken through financing, costing and services, record keeping and sustaining business.

Mr Isaac Bohulu, Empretec Training Officer described the project as unique because it does not only train the children but assist them to sustain the skills acquired as well. He said Empretec was prepared to help the children to develop their skills and encouraged them to put their training to good use
