Strategic Communication (Stratcomm) Africa has launched a reading and writing clinic at Komenda in the Central Region.
Dubbed “Read it, Write it, Say it”, the reading clinic was launched by Stratcomm through its affiliate non-governmental organization, the Centre for Intercultural Development and Communication.
It also launched a Social Information Centre, which is designed to make development-related material available to community members, particularly the youth, to empower them with information, to make informed positive decisions about lives.
Mrs Esther Cobbah, the Chief Executive Officer of Stratcomm Africa, said the programme was designed to bring critical literacy support to communities where basic education alone has been unable to meet the needs of children, particularly at the basic education level.
She said the programme would help the school children read better, write better and communicate better.
“We want them to enjoy reading and writing and to realize that these skills and the communication skills that build on reading and writing are vital for their future,” she said.
She explained that, with the programme, school children would be engaged in a number of activities including reading and pronunciation exercises, study tours, essay writing and spelling bee among others.
“Reading and writing are critical to almost every field of human endeavour and that is why we, at Stratcomm Africa, are so glad that we are contributing in this way to the lives of school children in public schools,” she said.
She urged parents to provide the needed support and encouragement to their wards, especially with regards to their participation in the programme.
She also appealed to other individuals and organizations to join hands with them to undertake the programme.
Mr Isaac Kwaku Sam, the Municipal Chief Executive of Komenda, Edina, Eguafo, Abirem, commended Stratcomm for introducing the programme in the area.
He said reading and writing are very essential to the development of every child and called on all stakeholders for support.
He gave the assurance that, the Municipal Assembly would support the programme to make it successful and urged other non- governmental organisations to emulate the gesture by Stratcomm Africa.
Mrs Comfort Sarpong, the Principal, Komenda College of Education, urged all, especially teachers to help the children have full benefit of the programme.
