Storm report a hoax – Meteo Agency

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has described as a hoax reports that a heavy rainstorm will hit the entire country Thursday night.

According to a Ghana News Agency (GNA) report attributed to Michael Padi, Senior Meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, per the weather indicators, the storm was expected at about 1900 hours.

But speaking to Starr News the head of forecasting session at the same agency, Joe Tetteh Portuphy urged the public to disregard the report of an imminent storm, describing it as a hoax.

“This is not coming from my outfit…my outfit is the forecasting unit that is the operational centre. Yes I saw it on the social media but I can’t vouch for that…that is why I told all those who called me to ignore that information,” Mr. Portuphy told Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan.

Nonetheless, he said the weather conditions over the northern sector is expected to be partly cloudy tonight and sunny in the afternoon tomorrow.

Also, he said moderate to heavy storm is expected to occur over parts of the Volta region between 5pm and 6pm “…then it will move west to affect the Eastern, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions later tonight and it will be accompanied by moderate rains.”
