Storm destroys property including school blocks in Adansi East

Kwadwo-Nkwanta (Ash), March 18, GNA – A severe rainstorm which hit some communities in the Adansi East district on Monday destroyed properties including a recently inaugurated three-classroom block built under the European Union (EU) micro project.

Properties destroyed run into several millions of cedis. There were, however, no casualties.

The worse affected communities were Kwadwo-Nkwanta, Akwansrem, Fumso and Amudroase, where the Local Primary and Junior Secondary Schools had their roofs ripped off and parts of the buildings damaged. Nana Appiah Dankwah, Head of the Inspectorate Division at the Adansi East District Directorate of Education, on Tuesday led officials of the GES and newsmen to inspect some of the affected school blocks. He asked opinion leaders in the affected communities to negotiate with the churches to find temporary accommodation for the pupils in order not to disrupt academic work.

He called on communities in the district to plant trees around school blocks to serve as wind breaks to protect the schools. Some of the affected victims appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the district assembly to assist them.
