Storekeeper granted 30 million cedis bail for defilement

Takoradi, May 10, GNA – Takoradi Circuit Court “A” on Tuesday granted a 30-million-cedi bail to Issaka Mohammed, 48, for defiling a 7-year-old girl.

Mohammed, a storekeeper, pleaded not guilty and is to re-appear on May 27, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor said the accused person used to live in the same vicinity with the victim and her parents in Takoradi but now resides at Kwesimintsim.

He said sometime in November last year, Charlotte Prah, the mother of the victim was informed at the Takoradi market that, her daughter had inserted a pencil into her private parts and had been rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for treatment.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the mother became alarmed and rushed to the Hospital where the medical doctor told her that a man had defiled the daughter.

He said the mother questioned her daughter who revealed that the accused defiled her and had also defiled her on two other occasions. Chief Inspector Hedidor said the victim told the mother that the accused had warned her not to tell anybody what had taken place between them or she would die.

He said the mother reported the matter to the Police and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence after further investigations. 10 May 2005
