Stop the mischief of discrediting government -DCE

Kweikrom (Ash), May 17, GNA – Mr James Boadi Danquah, Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive, has condemned what he says is an unbridled use of lies and mischief by some activists of opposition parties to discredit the government to win the sympathy of the electorate.

This, he noted, is both dishonourable and despicable and does not make for a healthy democratic culture. Mr Danquah was commissioning a 150 million-cedi six classroomed block for the Kweikrom Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Primary School.

The project was completed through the collaborative efforts of the SDA Church, District Assembly and the local community. The DCE said the time has come for the country to make a break with the viciousness, insults, intimidation and threats that characterised past electioneering campaigns.

He said to make the forthcoming general election free from violence, it was important for all key actors to display genuine inclination towards sincere and honest political campaigning.

Mr Danquah praised the chief of Kweikrom, Nana Kwei Ayisi, who for two years sacrificed proceeds from his cocoa farm to finance the project and declared that at the appropriate time, the district assembly would honour him for his wonderful gesture.

Pastor Isaac Nana Tuffour, President of the South Central Ghana Conference of the church, noted that education is the pillar of development and said it is in recognition of this that the church has focused attention on putting up structures for schools.

He said within the past one and a half years, they have assisted communities to construct a total of 86 classroom blocks in the country and advised parents to ensure that their children of school-going age are in school.

Pastor Tuffour asked teachers to be more dedicated and hardworking and help their pupils to have faith and confidence in themselves. Nana Ayisi appealed to the assembly to rehabilitate the local junior secondary school block.
