Stop politics of disunity -MCE

Agona-Abodom (C/R), Aug 6, GNA – Mr Felix Jacob Obeng-Forson, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has advised Ghanaians to discard the politics of disunity and stay focused on building a sound economy to alleviate poverty in the country.

“The 2008 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections have come and gone, and there is the need for us to come together as one people with a common destiny to fight hunger, diseases and other social problems confronting us”, he said.

Mr Obeng-Forson said this when he addressed separate durbars to climax the Annual Akwambo Festival of Chiefs and people of Agona-Abodom and Upper Bobikuma in the Central Region. He said the prevailing economic difficulty was a global one, and that government was doing everything possible to build a strong economy in order to relive Ghanaians of hardship. Mr Obeng-Forson advised residents of Agona-Abodom to endeavour to invest in their children’s education, adding that there was the need to establish a Senior High School in the town to absorb students from Junior High schools in the area.

At Upper Bobikuma, the MCE assured the chiefs and the people that the Municipal Assembly would help to develop Dapey Mountain into a tourist site to fetch money for the people and the assembly. He said efforts were being made by the Assembly and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to extend power supply to other parts of the town, especially the Habitat Community and the Health Centre. Mr Obeng-Forson told the people that government would soon start implementing the Youth in Agriculture programme, and urged the youth to form co-operatives to enable them to receive financial assistance to enter into farming.

Nana Adobaw Odum II, Tufuhene of Upper Bobikuma, appealed to the Inspector- General of Police (IGP) and the Agona West Assembly to help construct new offices and residential accommodation for Police personnel and officers in the town, adding that the Chiefs of the town had already released land for the project. 6 Aug. 09
