Stop opposing President’s nominee for DCEs

Kumasi, July 11, GNA – People and individuals, who are opposing the President’s nominees for the post of District Chief Executives have been asked to respect the presidency.

Mr Opoku-Agyemang Prempeh, Executive Director of the Centre for Moral Education (CEMED), an NGO devoted to the enlightenment of the youth and inculcation of good morals into them, who gave the advice, said there was a decent way of rejecting the nominee instead of taking to the streets.

He was speaking at a forum organised by CEMED in Kumasi on Wednesday for selected virgins clubs drawn from the metropolis. The forum was designed to create an avenue for members of the clubs on strategies to instill good moral values and discipline in the youth. Mr Prempeh said the President, as the father of the nation, will not nominee those, who would lord it over the people, since he cared very much about the progress of every part of the country.

He said, however, that where the people disagreed with the President’s nomination, there was a better way of showing this disapproval, which could be done through the district assemblies. Mr Prempeh called on assembly members to demonstrate their maturity and show that they were honourable people and resist any temptation to be influenced with cash or gifts into either voting for or against a nominee.

He said, as assembly members, they were expected to be role models for good morals, champions of the anti-corruption crusade and therefore, should not allow themselves to be corrupted.
