‘Stop inspecting insurance, driver’s license’ – Ashanti regional police commander

Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service has warned his men against mounting all road traffic checks relating to drivers licenses and other vehicle documentation.

According to DCOP Ken Yeboah, the police are to focus on helping direct traffic and also continue their routine checks for drugs, arms and other crimes coordinated on the road.

DCOP Ken Yeboa was speaking to host of Abusua Nkommo, Kwame Adinkrah during his public engagement on Abusua FM.

The police administration has come under intense pubic backlash as they have been accused of issue of using the vehicle documentation inspection to exploit and extort money from motorists.

DCOP Yeboah said, “we want to focus our attention on traffic in order to create a more congenial atmosphere for commuters in our cities and towns.”

He added, “therefore personnel on highway patrol are to limit their operations to inspection of cars for drugs and ammunitions only.”
