Stop giving false hopes – Parties urged

The Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea III, has appealed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from giving false hopes to their supporters of winning the election petition ongoing in court.

Obrifo Ahor Ankobea said it could be dangerous for the security of the country if the ruling did not favour a particular party.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Apam, the Omanhen said the false hopes could create problems for the judges as they could be accused as having given bias judgment.

He said this could be a recipe for creating disturbances and affect the peace the nation was enjoying.

The Omanhen advised the parties to rather prepare the minds of their supporters to accept the ruling in a good faith, but not to jump into the streets to disturb the peace.

He appealed to the National Peace Council and churches to continue the peace campaign as they did in the run-up to the 2012 general elections, and must not take things for granted.

Obrifo Ankobea advised the Peace Council against taking the pledges made by the leaders of the two political parties that they would accept the ruling of the Supreme Court and abide by it as the truth and relax in their educational campaigns and prayers for peace.

He reminded them about a similar pledge before the 2012 elections to accept the results.
