Dzodze, April 01, GNA-Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister on Friday urged contractors to be patriotic and stop the practice of putting up shoddy work in their desire to maximize profits.
He said government expected contractors to put up professional work that reflected a sense of ownership of their jobs.
Mr Dzamesi made these points when he cut the sod for the commencement of work on a 3.5-billion cedis Assembly Hall Complex for Dzodze Secondary School in the Ketu District.
He said contractors must always think of the beneficiaries of projects and not only their money so that at the completion of such projects both
parties would be satisfied. Mr. Dzamesi said the government was committed to the total development of the country, especially the education sector to ensure the development of the individual.
“It is therefore, necessary that whoever is to do any piece of development project for the good of the people must be committed to doing the work so that we have value for money”, he said. He called on the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to collaborate with the contractor to ensure good work and hoped the students would put the facility to good use on completion. Mr. Emmanuel Atieku, Headmaster of the school expressed the hope that the students would soon be saved from the mercy of the weather after 43 years of converging under trees.
He said the 30,000 cedis development levy approved by the Ghana Education Service per student was too small for the project to be completed on time and called for assistance from the Ketu District Assembly, GETFUND, Ghana Diamond Cement Company, GHACEM Foundation and other benevolent organizations.
The Hall, planned to accommodate 2000 students in future would, for the meantime accommodate 900 students. 01 04 06
