Stop defacing campaign posters — NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has expressed concern about increasing reports that campaign posters of candidates in the forthcoming district-level elections are being defaced or shredded in some communities and called for an end to those acts.

Mr Samuel Otchere, the Asante-Akim South District Director of the Commission, said those acts were criminal.

He asked those engaged in such unlawful acts to rethink their actions to avoid prosecution and said candidates should make sure that they obtained the consent of property owners before pasting their posters on buildings.

Mr Otchere was speaking at a public education forum held by the NCCE on the upcoming district assembly and unit committee elections at Yaw-Barimah, a farming community.

It was part of efforts to promote public interest and help voters to turn out in their numbers to cast their ballots on March 3, 2015.

Mr Otchere reminded the candidates to engage in decent campaigns, free from insults and tension. He advised them to tell the people what they would do differently to develop their communities and that running their opponents down was not the way to go.

He said the expectation was that all of them would conduct themselves responsibly to make the polls peaceful and successful.

Mr Otchere urged the voters to vote for candidates based on their proven personal record of hard work, competence and commitment to development.

Nana Adofo Akuamoah, the chief of Yaw-Barimah, said everything would be done to enable residents to vote massively on the polling day.
