Stop complaining, solve problems – Dr. Nduom tells Akufo-Addo

The 2016 presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has charged President Nana Akufo-Addo to put in place stringent measures that will curb the rot in the public sector rather than just highlighting them.

Nana Akufo-Addo, addressing workers at the May Day parade, charged them, especially those in the public sector, to eschew their lackadaisical attitude to work and be effective.

“I have said it at another forum, but I think it bears repeating: we arrive at work late and then spend the first hour in prayer; we are clock watchers and leave in the middle of critical work because it is the official closing time. Everything comes to a stop when it rains and we seem to expect the rest of the world also to stop,” the President said.

He continued: “We have no respect for the hours set aside for work… we pray, we eat, we visit during working hours. We spend hours chatting on the telephone when customers are waiting to be served, thereby increasing our labour costs. We take a week off for every funeral. And then we wonder why we are not competitive.”

However, speaking to Class News on the sidelines of a Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG) seminar on how to become a successful entrepreneur, Dr Nduom called on Nana Akufo-Addo to map out effective strategies to fix the problem.

“If a leader will come in front and come and lament that there is problem 1, 2, 3, 4, who is to solve it? So I don’t believe in that. I believe that you are put there because things are tough. So I’d prefer you’d tell me the president stood somewhere and said this is what I’m going to do or this is how I’m going to lead you to resolve this problem…” he stated.
