Stonebwoy gives GH₵100,000 to Ghana’s Black Challenge before World Cup

Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy has donated GH₵100,000 to the Black Challenge, the country’s national amputee football team, as they prepare for the 2026 World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) World Cup in Mexico.

The artist, known as the president of Bhim Nation, visited the team at a training session at Mensah Sarbah Park on Friday, 23 October 2026. Ghana are the reigning African champions and will travel to the tournament seeking their first world amputee football title.

The competition will be held from 13 to 22 November in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. The Black Challenge have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.

Stonebwoy’s contribution comes less than a month before the tournament begins and is intended to assist the team’s preparations. No further details were provided about how the money will be used.

Ghana have built a strong record in African amputee football in recent years. The Black Challenge won the African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) in 2021 and followed that achievement with gold at the inaugural African Para Games in Accra in 2023.

They retained their continental title at the 2024 AAFCON in Cairo, beating Morocco 2-1 in the final. Those successes have established Ghana as one of Africa’s leading amputee football nations and increased expectations ahead of their latest international challenge.

However, the team have yet to win the World Cup. The tournament in Mexico represents another opportunity for the Black Challenge to convert their continental success into a global championship.

Their campaign will begin with the Group D fixtures against Angola, Colombia and Iraq. Ghana must progress through the group stage before advancing to the later rounds and competing for the title.

The country also played an important role in the development of professional amputee football. In 2011, members of the Black Challenge became the first amputee football professionals in the world after signing contracts to play in the Turkish Amputee League.

That development created a significant milestone for the sport and highlighted Ghana’s contribution to providing professional opportunities for amputee footballers.

The Black Challenge have continued to represent Ghana in major international competitions, adding continental titles and the African Para Games gold medal to their record. They will now aim to take that form to Mexico and challenge for the sport’s biggest prize.

With the World Cup running from 13 to 22 November, preparations will focus on the group-stage matches and Ghana’s bid to secure a historic first world title. Stonebwoy’s GH₵100,000 donation adds financial support as the team prepares to represent the country.
