STME could give Ghana necessary leverage in devt

Bechem B/A), Sept. 3, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports on Thursday stressed at Bechem in Brong Ahafo that Science, Technology and Mathematics could give the country a great deal of leverage in the provision of quality education.

In a speech read for him at the opening of a one-week Science, Technology and Mathematics (STME) clinic for girls, the Minister emphasized that, for the country to obtain meaningful development, the training of the female population could not be overlooked. “For this reason, the Science, Technology and Mathematics programme should be considered an important intervention for us to tackle with all seriousness”, he said.

The clinic is under the theme, “Scientific and Technological Education, the Hope of the Nation”.

Mr Baah-Wiredu said any nation that adopted science and technology education could develop the strategy with which to transform its socio-economic fortunes to help improve the lives of the people. Mrs Beatrice Acheampong, acting Tano District Education Director called on the participants to show active interest in science and technology so they could be equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area advised the participants to be disciplined and dedicated in order to achieve their goals in life.
