Step up the political campaign in rural communities – Ackon

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Alexander John Ackon, has called for members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to step up the political campaign in the rural communities to substantially increase the party’s share of votes in this year’s election.

The party, he noted, drew its strength and support from the grassroots, and said any “neglect of these strongholds will not be in the best interest of the party”.

“We are in a critical electioneering period and must ensure that our campaign activities and resource mobilization are not limited to the cities and urban areas, but extended to cover the rural areas.”

Mr. Ackon, who was addressing a day’s orientation course in Kumasi for Coordinators of the Regional NDC Volta Caucus, entreated the party faithful to accept to work hard and to remain focused.

The party, he said, had in the last seven years not only delivered on its campaign promises but doing everything to make the situation of Ghanaians better.

He made reference to the massive infrastructure development undertaken by the government across the country – education, health, water and sanitation, information and communication technology (ICT) and other social interventions and said these were transforming the lives of the people.

Mr. Erasmus Asamoah, Regional Chairman of the Caucus, pleaded for the supply of the needed logistics to facilitate the work of the Coordinators.

They required communication gadgets, motor-bikes and other incentives to reach out to everybody.

Mr. Asamoah complained about, what he said, was the neglect of the Coordinators and asked that this changed, to help achieve the party’s target of securing one million votes in the region – the hotbed of political opposition.
