Statement: Police dismisses slapping incident in Daily Guide story

The Police Administration’s attention has been drawn to a news story carried by the Wednesday 14th March, 2012 issue of the Daily Guide and wishes to re-act to it.

According to the story the Honourable District Chief Executive of Atwima Nwabiagya, Nana Asare Bediako slapped the District Police Commander, ASP Charles Adu for allegedly refusing to hand him a recording of a commotion by some NDC supporters.

The Police Service wishes to state that there indeed was a misunderstanding between the Police Commander and the DCE over a tape recording, but it never culminated in the DCE slapping the Police Officer, who is Superintendent of Police and not ASP.

We wish to state that both the Police Officer and the Honourable DCE have denied any such thing happening, and therefore wish to entreat the media to exercise maximum circumspection in the publication of stories of this nature, as they have the potential to breach the peace.

Furthermore, the Police Administration would want to implore politicians and social commentators to stay clear of embroiling the Police in politics, as the Police are neutral professionals, whose only mandate is to provide security for all, irrespective of one’s political, social, religious or economic background.

Signed:

AG. Director/Public Affairs [Cephas Arthur]
