Statement By Friends Of The Truth On Health Matters In Ashanti Region

.
1) The Health needs of Ghanaians should be paramount to every government and as such natters affecting the health sector should be tackled with dispatch.
It is therefore disheartening to hear Consultant and Specialist – Doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on strike for the past couple of weeks. This not withstanding, Junior Doctors are also on strike in solidarity with their seniors.

This action of the junior doctors is precipitated by the fact that, there are no senior, consultant and specialist doctors to aid them in the discharge of their duties as they don’t want patients to lose their lives because of unavailability of expert opinion.

Again, Pharmacists at KATH and other public hospitals are on strike and lives are being lost. The Friends of the Truth would want to send a clear message to the NDC government, the Minister of Health and Management of KATH especially and other public health facilities to act with urgency to save this situation and prevent deaths in the Ashanti Region and elsewhere. We have already suffered enough with the NHIA’s Capitation Policy in Ashanti Region and would in due course let the world know its devastating effect on the region.

Also, the threat of firing pharmacists and other dispensing technicians, coupled with the utterances of some government officials, especially the Health Minister, Mr. Albgan Sumani Babgin should stop immediately .This attitude doesn’t inspire leadership and slackens motivation.

Finally, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission should be proactive in resolving the remuneration of the Pharmacists.
