State Transport Corporation Takes Delivery Of New Buses

Accra, (Greater Accra) 10 Nov. The State Transport Company (STC) has taken delivery of 10 out of 50 buses it ordered from Neoplan Assembly Plant in Kumasi to increase its fleet for efficient services to the public, Mr. Sam Anao, Public Relations Manager of the STC, has said. Mr. Anao told the GNA in Accra today, that the 50 buses were purchased at a cost of 11.29 million dollars. He said the chassis were purchased from Scania of Sweden and imported for Neoplan Ghana Limited who are building the bodies locally, and that they are being delivered to the STC at a rate of two a week. The PR manager said the acquisition of the buses was made possible through a loan granted to the company by BHF Bank of Germany at an interest rate of five per cent, payable over a five-year period. He said they have been designed to meet the changing demands of customers for comfort, safety and reliability. ”It is envisaged that by the end of December, the impact of the new buses would be felt”. Meanwhile, the company has taken delivery of spare parts including engines for the rehabilitation of its DAF buses. Mr. Anao said by the arrangement, the company would be operating with about 80 roadworthy buses by the end of the year.
