State prosecutors in the case in which Gregory Afoko, the younger brother of suspended National Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Paul Awentami Afoko is standing trial for the death of the party’s late Upper East Regional chairman Adams Mahama are challenging the competency of the interpreter in the case.
The wife of the late Mahama, Hajia Zenabu Mahama is expected back in the witness boss today but the state wants the interpreter changed.
Mr. Matthew Amponsah, a chief state attorney when the case was mentioned told the court they have a problem with how the interpretation was done by the interpreter at the last adjourn date .
Mrs. Mahama is supposed to continue with her evidence in chief in Hausa which will subsequently be translated into English.
But the defence counsel led by Lawyer Ekow Ampah Korsah have oppposed the move saying the state wants to force words on the interpreter’s mouth and the court should not allow.
The case has been stood down with the presiding judge Justice L L Mensah having a conference with the parties in chambers.
