State assets must be controlled by Administrator General – Kojo Oppong proposes

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayeribi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has proposed a law to be implemented to allow the Administrator General to retrieve state properties from outgoing government appointees .

The MP and spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party transitional team wants parliament to make laws to ensure registered state assets come under care of the director administrator general.

The MP’s suggestions comes at the back of complaints by Senior Minister, Yaw Ozark Marfoabout the signing of last-minute contracts and the inability of the current government to retrieve some assets from appointees of the erstwhile National Democratic Congress which has become a source of worry to the current government.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah who is now Deputy Minister-Designate for Information on Kumasi-based Nhyira Fm explained that given powers to Administrative General to publish state assets will end unlawful seizures of properties from past a government.

He further posited that it will make it difficult for government officials to claim ownership since information about the said asset is already in the public domain.

According to him, the NPP’s polices can translate to the biggest transformational agenda in the history of the country asking Ghanaians to repose confidence in the government to deliver the promises made to them.

MP for Bodi Constituency in the Western Region and former Deputy Minister Works and Housing under the out gone government, Sampson Ahi is however of the view that needs to deliver on its promises of making things better for Ghanaians rather than chasing assets .

He strongly disagreed outgoing governments be barred from awarding contracts saying that in as much as they remain power before the swearing in of a new government the law allows them to act in such a manner.
