Start work on irrigation project-MP

Kintampo (B/A) Oct. 27, GNA – Mr. Stephen Kunsu, MP for Kintampo North has appealed to the Government to begin work on the irrigation projects earmarked for the people of Asantekwaa and New Longoro. Mr. Kunsu told Ghana News Agency at Kintampo the projects were initiated by the NDC government under the Agricultural Sector Improvement Programme, which was aimed at improving the activities of rural farmers.

He expressed concern about the long delay in the implementation of the projects, which, he said, on completion would bring a remarkable change in the lives of the people.

The MP advised the youth to avail themselves of the opportunity and engage in agricultural activities as the cultivation of rice, maize and vegetables like tomatoes, okro, garden eggs and green pepper. Mr. Kunsu urged the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to detail officers to conduct the necessary feasibility studies into the proposed irrigation projects and their implementation.

Mr. Kunsu complained about the poor state of some feeder roads in the area, a problem he said, had disabled the people from carting their farm produce to the marketing centres.

He mentioned Miawani-Dabaa, Soronoase-Ntraban-Busuam as well as Kunsu-Congo-Ntankoro roads, and said quantities of yam, maize, groundnuts, millet and vegetables were getting rotten in the communities.

Mr. Kunsu called on the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate the affected roads to facilitate the movement of the people and goods. He said the lack of access roads in Kintampo had also accelerated erosion in the town, affecting a number of buildings and appealed to the government to support the District Assembly to construct access roads.
