Start preparations for street naming exercise – Minister

Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Eastern Regional Minister, has tasked the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) to commence preparations towards the street naming exercise which is scheduled for coming September.

The Minister made the call when she and her Deputy, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, met Heads of Departments at separate functions during a familiarization tour to the Kwaebibirem and the Denkyembuor Districts.

She said the street naming exercise was an important venture which all stakeholders must get involved.

Ms Ntoso asked the Assemblies to ensure that they sought the views of all stakeholders and the indigenous people of the respective areas before giving a name to a street.

“Bring all stakeholders together to plan and consult to get the list of names ready before the month of August.”

She stressed that street naming was a very simple exercise, but without the views and involvement of the original people, it could result in chaos.

Ms Ntoso said apart from the street naming exercise, the Assemblies should at all times, involve the chiefs and stakeholders in their respective administrative areas, in all developmental decisions taken.

The District Chief Executives for the Kwaebibirem and Denkyembuor pledged to ensure that adequate consultations and preparations are made for the formal commencement of the exercise.
