Start defensive training for drivers – Christian Council

Accra, Sept 1, GNA – The Christian Council of Ghana on Thursday asked that intensive education on defensive driving for drivers must be embarked upon by both the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Police Service and other stakeholders to provide the skills needed to ensure safety on the roads.

The Council particularly urged the MTTU to be more vigilant in checking speeding drivers and prosecute offenders to serve as deterrent to other road users.

The Reverend Dr Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Council, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed worry over the daily occurrence of accidents and the continuous loss of lives through motor accidents.

He, therefore, asked drivers to be cautious when driving, maintain their vehicles regularly and to stop to take a rest when they need to. “Drivers and other road users must be careful how they use the road in order to preserve lives” Rev Deegbe said.

Dr Deegbe on behalf of the Council expressed condolence to the nation, health professionals and the families of the late three urologists who died in the motor accidents on the Accra-Kumasi road last weekend.

Professor J.M.K. Quartey, Dr Isaac Bentsi and Dr Benjamin Osei-Wiafe died in the motor accident last Saturday on the Bunso-Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
