Standard Board reviews standard for plastic chairs

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA – Ghana Standards Board (GSB) has embarked on the revision of the standard for plastic chairs with the view to tightening the requirements and control of its production.

This was the outcome of a meeting between GSB and plastic chair manufacturers following investigations, which revealed that the chairs collapsed and broke under weight of users leading to injuries.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday said manufacturers were entreated at the meeting to improve their process in order to turn out quality products.

The statement said reasons identified as the cause of sub-standard plastic chairs were use of inadequate basic material and relevant additives in the manufacturing process and poor handling of the chairs during usage and transportation. It said in order that consumers may derive utmost satisfaction and benefit, the chairs must not be exposed to the sun for long hours and stacked more than 30 high during storage and transportation.
