Stalls association kick against re-allocation

Techiman (B/A), June 6, GNA- The members of the 300 strong Techiman Infrastructure Project Stall Owners Association have petitioned the Municipal authorities against the intended re-allocation of market stalls to another group of people.

The petition was addressed to Mr. Prince Donyina, Municipal Chief Executive and copied to the Presiding Member of the Municipal Assembly, Mr. Kofi Asamoah Banaba and the media.

The petition signed by Mr. Faried Kwame Sarpong, Secretary of the association, said the members legally acquired the stalls, popularly called “Royco”, during the tenure of office of the former Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi. It said recent developments observed by members indicated that the stalls were to be re-rented to another group at a cost of 200,000 cedis each.

“Records show that we are the legitimate occupants of the “Royco” stalls, having paid 620,000 each for a stall”, adding that, many requests to the Assembly to rectify defects on the stalls had not received any positive response.

The members said their demand for urinals, toilets, electricity and a pavement along the stalls, as well as their proposal to the Assembly to allow them to enter into the Build Operate and Transfer system to address the defects “have also fallen on deaf ears”. “We as an association believe in using peaceful means in addressing issues but would resist attempts by the Assembly to re-allocate the stalls to other persons instead of addressing our concerns”, the members stated.

They called on the Assembly to release the tender document on the project and urge the contractor to explain the defects on the structure.
